Location:  The Philippines is an archipelago located in Southeast Asia. It is surrounded by water comprising 7,107 islands and islets. On the  east is the Pacific Ocean, on the west is South China Sea. The northernmost group of islands in the Philippines is Batanes which is only 118 miles from Taiwan, while the southernmost island of Tawi-Tawi, is a mere 37 miles away from Borneo.

Population:  96,061,680 (July 2008 est.) Ranked 14th among nations

Land Area: 115,830 Square miles  (about the size of Arizona) Cebu is 5,088 km2 (slightly larger than Rhode Island).  The country is ranked number 79 in size among the nations.

Number of Islands:  7,107 !!!!!!

Motto:  Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa “For God, People, Nature and Country”

Religions:  Roman Catholic 80.9%, Muslim 5%, Evangelical 2.8%, Iglesia ni Kristo 2.3%, Aglipayan 2%, other Christian 4.5%, other 1.8%, unspecified 0.6%, none 0.1% (2000 census)

Life Expectancy:  70.80 years – ranked 133rd among nations

Ethnic Groups:  Tagalog 28.1%, Cebuano 13.1%, Ilocano 9%, Bisaya/Binisaya 7.6%, Hiligaynon Ilonggo 7.5%, Bikol 6%, Waray 3.4%, other 25.3% (2000 census)

Languages:  Filipino (official; based on Tagalog) and English (official); eight major dialects – Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango, and Pangasinan

Climate: Central and northern Cebu have short dry seasons, usually lasting from one to three months with no pronounced maximum rain period. The province is frequently visited by typhoons.

Average Annual Rainfall: 86.34 inches

  • Hello all ! Our church is praying for you. This past Sunday night we voted to take you on for missionary support. PTL! We will be sending $50 per month toward the work there. I will contact the mission board and let them know and how to set it up.
